7th Annual GTAC Disability Open - May 15-16 at the University of Cincinnati

Making Waves               GTAC Meet Info
Dear All,

Attached is the meet packet for the 7th Annual GTAC Disability Open to be held May 15-16 at the University of Cincinnati. Included is meet entry information for athletes, applications for athlete classification and information about officiating and the officials' course, as well as directions around the UC Campus. We wish to emphasize that FIRST TIME swimmers are welcomed and encouraged to attend this meet, and swimmers with any kind of disability are welcome. Our goal is to offer an excellent meet at an outstanding facility for all paralympic swimmers, including the most experienced, while welcoming first time to swimmers to the paralympic experience.

We thank all of our Michigan and Ohio USA Swimming officials who each year make this meet possible, and who have been with this meet from its very first year. John Loria of Michigan is once again our Meet Referee, and Dianna MacDonald of GTAC is our Meet Entry Chair. Please forward all questions to her re: entries. Volunteers are very welcome to help with timing, assisting around the deck, and to work as officials. Michigan Swimming has already generously authorized funds to help cover a meet social for parents and athletes, which both Ohio and Michigan Swimming have hosted in past years.

Last year's meet was very successful and saw many new swimmers come into this paralympic sport. We want to encourage our wounded military veterans as well as athletes from any disability program to consider attending this meet along with members of our US team. It is an excellent opportunity for both new and experienced swimmers, and each year, American and World records have been set. Attached please find an article about the meet which appeared in UC's magazine. There was also a great deal of coverage in Swimming World's on-line magazine.

Please let us know if we can answer any questions. We will be working with the media in Cincinnati as well as the great staff at UC to make this the best meet ever.

Thank you and Happy New Year

Keith Kennedy, Meet Director

Cindy Millen Roberts, Office Manager
